A Post Modernist Dream: Inside BONIA's Flagship Store
With a vision rooted in craftsmanship and individuality, BONIA is the product of its commitment to inspire self-expression and exploration. This January, the international lifestyle brand has taken its next step in that journey of expression with the opening of the brand’s new flagship store.
Located on the ground level of Suria KLCC, the 2,211 sq. ft. BONIA flagship store launched on 8 January 2022, proudly unveiling its unprecedented store concept designed by London-based interior architect Oskar Kohnen.
“We are beyond excited to have worked with Oskar Kohnen on our new flagship store concept,” said Jonathan Liang, Creative Director. “We wanted someone who understood our brand vision and could blend art and fashion in an experiential space that was progressive and inquisitive, which Oskar does perfectly. This store challenges the way people view BONIA as a lifestyle, luxury brand.”
The concept of the store reflects a museum and gallery space, where beautiful objects of desire are hosted with the aim to immerse and inspire every visitor in the world of BONIA, from handbags and accessories to the brand’s latest offerings in lifestyle and tableware.
“The space is supposed to be a playground, not a pre-determined showroom," said Oskar Kohnen, interior architect and founder of Oskar Kohnen Studio, a London-based architecture and design firm. "I wanted it to be a large gallery like space that changes the way you look at the fashion.”
The materials and interior finishings were created in collaboration with local craftsmen, including grey terrazzo flooring, black and green marble, breeze block screen bricks in terracotta and a Barrisol ceiling. The store’s highlight feature is its mint green abstract staircase which emulates BONIA’s journey from humble beginnings to an evergreen heritage brand.
“Our flagship store is a reflection of our brand’s identity that meshes heritage with immersive experiences,” said Dato' Sri Daniel Chiang, Executive Director. “As a visionary label, we wanted an experiential store that deeply captivates our customers in the design beliefs that BONIA upholds.”
